Dark days ahead?

Recent reports claim South Africans can expect power cuts and load shedding due to heavy rains.

The online news website, Times Live, reports that most of the 27 power stations that are run by Eskom, are based in Mpumalanga – one of the provinces that experienced unusually high rainfall the past couple of weeks. The rainfall had a tremendous effect on not only the opencast mines, but also on the amount and quality of coal that are supplied to some of Eskom’s plants, according to an article on worldal.com.

Eskom chief executive Brian Dames recently mentioned in a media briefing that the unusually heavy rains, the unplanned shutdown at the Koeberg nuclear power plant for repairs and the uncertainty over the extent of electricity demand in the future is a risk to the security of power supply in the country.

The answer is simple

Households can reduce electricity consumption and ensure hot water during the expected power outages by investing in a Solahart solar water heater.

The reality is that with or without the threat of load shedding, it is of utmost importance of households to save on energy usage. A Solahart solar water heater can reduce water-heating costs by up to 90%. Because a solar heater uses much less energy, it also produces considerably less greenhouse gas emissions per year than a normal geyser. The installation of a solar water heater is therefore the best solution for households – with the convenience of hot water during load shedding, you’ll never be left out in the cold during darker days. You’ll be giving Mother Nature a hand as well.
