| Solar in South Africa
Although the sun is shining in full force (and heaters and electric blankets are safely packed away across South Africa) we still need to save electricity. Eskom released a statement during November, urging South Africans to save electricity during summer as the power system is tight due to scheduled maintenance on their systems. Why not take advantage of the African sun to take the load of the grid? By investing in renewable energy, you might get more back than you bargained for. Under the National Energy Act 2008, companies can now submit proof of their energy savings to SARS for a credit on their tax return. A professional institution, such as the Council for Measurement and Verification Professionals of South Africa, must verify these savings. Proof that it pays to be green!
In other green news, Johannesburg is officially one of the greenest places in Africa. Our concrete jungle was rated highly on the African Green City Index, according to The Economist Intelligence Unit who completed the survey. Here’s to our green city of gold!
