New building energy efficiency regulation announced
On 14 June 2010 Trade and Industry minister Rob Davies announced that all new buildings have to be designed to a standard to minimise energy usage.
One of the requirements is that all new buildings would have to be fitted with a South African National Standards (SANS) approved energy efficient solar water geyser.
The new regulations will be finalised by 2010. It will form part of deliverables of the National Energy Strategy to reinforce South African standards and regulations for energy efficiency.
