Solahart customer invests in third system
Benoni - Significant savings and constant hot water over the past 15 years prompted Benoni business owner Tony Murdoch to invest in his third Solahart solar water heater. Murdoch invested in his first Solahart for his home in the mid 1990s. This year Murdoch bought two more systems to provide constant hot water for his new guesthouse in Benoni.
According to Murdoch the electricity usage on his traditional geyser was reason enough to invest in a solar alternative.
"I started monitoring my electricity usage in the 1990s. I realised that 30% of my electricity usage could be attributed to my traditional geyser during summer, and up to 50% in winter. This discovery prompted me to invest in a Solahart solar water heater," Murdoch explained.
The Murdoch family employs support staff full time to help take care of Murdoch's disabled wife. According to Murdoch the family always has sufficient hot water, despite the additional occupants.
"We need hot water 24 hours per day, and we've never had a problem. Based on this experience with Solahart I decided to invest in two 300-litre Solahart solar geysers for my new guesthouse," he said.
"We're still building the guesthouse and the Solahart backup elements haven't been activated yet. Even without the backup elements, the Solahart geysers heat the water enough to activate the temperature release valve. The builders can't believe how hot the water gets," he laughed.
Constant hot water and significant electricity savings prompted Murdoch to invest in a Solahart 15 years ago, and the same principles hold true today. With the Eskom rebate of R12 097 per system, Murdoch will see a return on investment even sooner.
