In 1964 Solahart developed, manufactured and installed the largest solar water geysers in the southern hemisphere. Two systems were installed in the northwest of Australia, each providing hot water for 140 people.
It was the introduction of the Solahart 300L/80GE solar geyser in 1978 which confirmed Solahart's leadership in Australia. The solar geysers received wide market acceptance internationally. This led to Solahart developing its own worldwide dealer network, supported by regional sales and technical offices.
Today Solahart has manufactured over 1 000 000 units and is represented in over 80 countries on every continent.
Since 2001, Solahart has been ultimately owned by Paloma Co. Ltd., a world leader in water heaters, gas appliances and air conditioners. Solahart, with its parent company Paloma and sister company, Rheem USA, is now a part of the largest hot water manufacturing organisation in the world. With manufacturing plants in Japan, USA, Canada, Singapore, China, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand, Paloma owns such world-recognised brands as Paloma, Rheem, Solahart, Raypak, Vulcan & Edwards.
Paloma's investment is a testament to Solahart's leading position in the world market and has allowed Solahart to expand its coverage overseas and to increase its already enviable product development and manufacturing expertise.
One of the keys to Solahart's success over the years has been the relentless pursuit of innovation.
Research and Development is a critical part of the business. Solahart has developed a ‘Centres of Excellence’ approach for advanced technologies with dedicated R&D people in Welshpool, WA and Rydalmere, NSW. These include industry-leading specialists in material science, performance testing and enamelling technology. Through international recruitment Solahart has built a strong team committed to developing the next generation of solar water heaters.
"It’s our aim to make solar water heating as accessible as any conventional water heater. We want to make sure that whatever the setting - a house, a block of units or huge industrial plant, solar water heating is the most cost-effective water heating option across the board, from installation to running costs, maintenance and longevity. We are working on making roof mounted models easier to install and more suitable for contemporary looks. We’re applying sophisticated materials technology, such as anti-reflection coatings, to enhance heat absorption and improve efficiency.
We’re developing large-scale commercial applications, integrating bulk water storage into our ground-breaking closed circuit heating system. New collectors enhance our flat plate collectors models for durability, aesthetics and install ability."
To maintain their competitive edge, performance testing is essential. Solahart has the most advanced fluid modelling software available which enables them to examine every aspect of fluid heating and heat retention.
"One thing is certain as we move forward to the future of solar water heating - each generation of solar water heaters we produce will be fundamentally better than the last and meet our own stringent standards of quality and durability."
